EU-court canceled the exception rule for the flame retardant DecaBDE
In the commission decision 2005/717/EC of 13 October 2005 amending for the purposes of adapting to the technical progress the Annex to Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment for the decabromo diphenyl ether (DecaBDE), a member of the group of flame retardants polybrominated diphenyl ether, an exception rule was established. Now the usage of DecaBDE in electrical and electronic equipment was allowed again. In January 2006 the European Parliament and the EU-country Denmark sue against this decision. On April 01 2008 the judgment of the EU-court canceled the exception rule for decaBDE effective to July 01 2008. This means, that electrical and electronic equipment which is placed on the European market from this date on, no PBDE with decaBDE is allowed. The limit for the group of PBDE is unmodified 0.1%.
