As a service provider, the LGA has fifty years' experience of product testing, devoting its energy and skills to safety and quality consultancy. Goods are tested to quality, electrical and mechanical safety standards, with particular emphasis here on their optical components. The findings of these tests add to product value, giving manufacturers and customers the assurance that everything has been done to minimize risks and ensure quality requirements. Nowadays, the optical quality of convenience and consumer goods is a major factor in comprehensive quality tests. The simple statement that a product complies with the EC directive is no longer sufficient. The statement on quality is the decisive sales argument. The comprehensive range of services provided by TÜV Rheinland LGA Products GmbH is augmented by its cooperation with the Nuremberg university of applied sciences. Optical product tests and certification of optical products are new in our testing range. The following are some examples of products for which we carry out optical tests. Optical components und systems
The classic optical product range consists of systems that the user looks through. Imaging quality, colour fidelity and optical effects all play a part.
Translucent and/or ultra-violet screening products
Protection against ultra-violet rays is becoming more and more important. In 2002, the project organisation "Environmental research and technology" tested the ultra-violet permeability of textiles, on behalf of the German Ministry for Education and Research. The findings showed that over 30% of summer clothing had an insufficient sun protection factor (SPF) or ultra-violet protection factor (UPF). Our laboratories also carry out trials and tests across the complete light spectrum.
Products producing ultra-violet rays
Ultra-violet rays are an aggressive form of radiation; hence the need for UV protection. So knowledge of the exact UV radiation emitted by these products is essential.
POF and fibre optical measuring systems
Measurements are carried out to international standards. We have measuring equipment to characterise fibres, optical components and systems in all performance classes. The LGA cooperates with the POF (polymer optical fibre) Application Centre of the Nuremburg university of applied sciences.
Equipment using lasers
Since 1 January, 2004, the new DIN EN 60825-2 standard, with its altered laser classification, has been in force. All appliances with any kind of laser come under this regulation. Our range of services includes testing those products and much more.
We also feature on-the-spot testing or special laser tests, e.g. of industrial lasers, in co-operation with the Bavarian Laser Centre (BLZ).
Characterisation of optical sensors A major part of data communications is based on optical signals. Optical sensors are used as receivers, thus having an affect on transmission quality and quantity.
